Embracing Hope: Finding My Own Path to Healing

“I came across a case of what I call Radical Remission while reading Dr. Andrew Weil’s book Spontaneous Healing. I froze, confused and stunned. Had this actually happened? Did this person really overcome advanced cancer without using conventional medicine? If so, why had it not been on the front page of every newspaper?”

This quote from the first page of Kelly Turner’s book Radical Remission drew me in immediately. Kelly Turner, Ph.D., is a researcher and psychotherapist specializing in integrative oncology. Her book, based on her research into over a thousand cases of radical remission, captivated me. I had recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and felt nearly frozen by the daunting decision of how to get through.

After seeking several second opinions and trying to learn as much as I could, I was losing hope and feeling overwhelmed and confused. What was the right thing to do? Reading the stories of radical survivors in Turner’s book gave me hope and the realization: there isn’t one way through. Each survivor’s story in her book had its own unique path. Some found their way back to health with a mixture of traditional medicine and alternative therapies; some said no to conventional treatments altogether.

Her book had such a profound impact on me, leading to the realization that it wasn’t about finding the right way—it was about finding my own way. This turned out to be a life lesson, not just a cancer lesson: there is always hope and the best way through is finding your own way.

The path to healing is deeply personal. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, but there is always hope. Do it your way.
